DermaPen Micro-Needle Skin Therapy
DermaPen_Surrey is a unique beauty treatment that works by stimulating the body’s natural healing processes. Thin needles gently penetrate the skin, and rejuvenate the complexion. Unlike alternative beauty procedures, the DermaPen is specially designed to minimise epidermal damage, meaning it is not associated with long recovery times! DermaPen Micro-Needle Skin Therapy can be used to treat a number of different skin conditions, including:
- Acne and chicken pox scars
- Enlarged pores
- Lines and wrinkles on the face and neck
- Sagging and loss of elasticity
- Under-eye bags
- Sun damage
- Age spots
How does DermaPen Skin Therapy work?
Known in the beauty world as a needling roller. The idea behind skin needling is that the skin naturally heals itself following cuts, wounds and damage. Skin needling is a process that lightly abrades the skin by puncturing it with small holes, triggering the body to initiate a series of repairing mechanisms, including the release of new collagen. Collagen plumps and rejuvenates the skin cells, leading to soft, smooth, younger-looking skin. The puncturing of the skin also allows hydrating serums used in the process to be fully absorbed by the cells. A DermaPen procedure covering the face and neck normally takes 20 minutes. Procedures that focus elsewhere on the body can take up to an hour, depending upon the type of treatment needed, and the size of the problem area.
Before the procedure begins, an anaesthetic is applied to the skin to numb the area and ensure that the treatment is painless. During the procedure, the DermaPen is moved gently over the skin, allowing the needles to puncture the skin and create tiny holes. This damage stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to heal the skin. The new release of collagen and elastin plumps and tightens the treated area, leading to a softened and rejuvenated appearance.
DermaPen Skin Therapy is an incredibly versatile procedure and can be a brilliantly effective treatment for all kinds of conditions, including sagging skin, fine lines, stretch marks, enlarged pores and acne scarring. Many patients with darker skin find that similar cosmetic treatments involving laser heat leave them with post-treatment pigmentation. DermaPen significantly reduces the risk of pigmentation, although patients will still need to avoid heat exposure and use sun protection while they are recovering from treatment.
How deep can the DermaPen go?
The beauty of the DermaPen is that it can be adapted to treat different skin conditions, concerns and complaints. This means that the needles can penetrate the skin superficially and starting at a depth of 0.25mm or if a more invasive treatment is needed a depth of up to 2.5mm can be used.
Light penetration creates tiny openings in the skin which allows for the introduction of specialised nourishing serums. Typically, when you apply a serum to your skin the molecules contained in the product are too large to cross the skin barrier. Once the DermaPen has opened the skin the serum can penetrate deeper, allowing for maximum hydration. The serum which is applied will depend upon the specific needs of the client, but the serums can target conditions such as dark patches, dryness, uneven skin tone and enlarged pores. The effects of the treatment are normally seen immediately.
Mid depth penetration can be used to treat superficial sun damage and light scarring also it can have a huge beneficial impact upon enlarged pores, skin tone and texture.
Deep penetration can improve more serious skin conditions such as acne/burn scarring and stretch marks. It can also help to tighten the skin and soften fine lines and wrinkles. The effects of DermaPen Skin Therapy upon scarring can usually be seen after around four to six months of regular treatments.
Does DermaPen Skin Therapy hurt?
Anaesthetic is usually applied to numb the skin before the treatment is carried out, this makes the treatment more comfortable and relaxing for the client. The deeper needle penetration is the more aggressive the treatment is, which may cause discomfort. However, In the case of shallow penetration, anaesthetic is not normally needed because the treatment is not usually painful.
How long does treatment last?
You can see results within ten days of treatment. Usually, the effects of one treatment will last for up to three months, and the collagen produced will grow and mature in the skin over a period of around 90 days.
The results of DermaPen Skin Therapy are accumulative, which means that if you have regular treatments, the quality of your skin will continue to improve.
What are the typical areas that are treated?
DermaPen Skin Therapy can be used to treat many different areas and conditions. It can tackle fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, cheeks, mouth, neck and décolletage, as well as problem areas on the abdomen, hands and arms.
Treatment with the DermaPen is especially effective at treating scarring. This includes acne scars, burn scars and surgical scars from facelifts, breast enlargements or reductions, liposuction and orthopaedic work. It can also be used to improve the appearance of stretch marks and to tighten loose body skin.
